Miyuki Zoku (MKI) is a Leeds based streetwear brand which stems from 2010 alongside its retail space the MKI store. According to creative director Vic Tailor ‘The idea was to bring a truly ground-breaking concept store to the heart of Leeds introducing new labels; new styles and a new look and ethos to the city’. Below I will also display a brand essentials list of the best men’s MKI clothing available currently.
The store has a mission statement ‘To be a hub for the knowledgeable fashion consumer, in an environment that is simultaneously creative and relaxed’. From personal visits to the store this ethos is maintained both by the MKI staff and the array of well designed garments displayed throughout the store.
The MKI store places the greatest emphasis on MKI clothing with other complementary brands also being stocked like Comme Des Garcons, St James and Air Air. The MKI brand is priced at surprisingly affordable levels whilst still maintaining an exclusive feel with quality materials being used within the construction process.
According the the creative director MKI was designed to offer designer products at a much lower price point than competitors. Due to the low price point the brand is very popular with the university students living in Leeds. MKI clothing is also meant to be easily wearable with the MKI store providing a customer service unlike other small independent stores.
MKI is named after a 1960s Japanese tribe. A youth tribe called ‘The Miyuki-Zoku’ were the first group in japan to wear US inspired ivy league clothing. The group’s name came from their storefront loitering on Miyuki Street in the upscale Ginza shopping neighbourhood of Japan. The Miyuki Zoku were mostly in their late teens numbering around 700 at the trends peak.
The creative director Vic Tailor originally came from an interior design background with positions at Paul Smith and designer furniture companies before deciding to move back home to Leeds and start his own brand. Vic Tailor provides his target demographic as being cool, fashion conscience 18-35 year olds (mostly men). His ideal customer is ‘someone who has a more refined taste with a keen eye for subtle detail and quality’.
The brand is gaining popularity and now being stocked by multiple luxury fashion retailers. Find below the most wanted list of the best MKI clothing available.
